We are beginning to see a greater awareness from some of the Millennials and Gen X'ers about the importance of tradition and finding their way back to the roots of the Church. The hype of modernism of industrialized and consumeristic megachurch is waning. Many hyper-spiritual and charismatic personalities-driven Churches can no longer impress their members with all the hype, while their leaders have many integrity issues. The post-liberal groups are constantly following all kinds of trends in the world (with the current movement of social justice, political activism, etc.). These are the fruits of many decades of heterodoxies. All these have left many sheep of Christ longing to have a meaningful Christian identity; seeking the pure voice of Christ to lead them into the new covenant life and the presence of the triune God.
Boomers, Gen-X'ers, and Millennials of the Protestant Evangelical circles, I do not mean to rub salt into the wound, but these are the consequences of straying away from the roots of two thousand years of tradition.
There is a common misconception and distorted fact that the Church has been divided; thus, we cannot know the origin and tradition of the early Church. This is not true. Church schism in history is a complex narrative. Although complex, I can assure you that it is not impossible to know our roots and origins. There are millions of us who have been faithfully continuing the doctrines and traditions of what Christ has given to the Apostles for the past two thousand years. The Church was never lost nor corrupted in her way of following the Bible. Such churches are known to be orthodox (not Eastern Orthodox); catholic (not Roman Catholic); and/or, Reformed (not Continental Reformed). Nevertheless, there are churches that chose to break away from the historical traditions of the early Church and the Apostles of Christ. We are not in communion with such churches.
The hype we see in the modern movements was admonished and warned by the saints of the Church in the New Testament (ref. 2 Thessalonians 3:6) but instructed us to "...stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter." (2 Thessalonians 2:15) It is through a few centuries of modern theological perversion amongst some of the radical Protestant scholars condescended and ignored the importance of divine traditions. They have led many genuine seekers of the faith in Christ into confusion, disillusioned faith in the Church, and unable to fully grow into full maturity in Christ.
I am a missionary in East Asia trying to show many sincere God-fearing modern Evangelicals that there is a Church tradition that has not changed from the days of Christ. There is an unbroken apostolic tradition guarded for centuries by faithful bishops and priests. The Apostles, indeed, admonish the Church in their epistles of the New Testament not to stray away from such essential tradition, so the truth of the Gospel will be guarded; those who want to follow Christ will know and experience the truth of the Gospel. (cf. Titus 1:9)
We are Catholics, not Roman; Orthodox, not Eastern; Reformed, not radical Protestants or Continental Reformed. We are part of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church with the patrimony of the English tradition. We continue to be faithful, walking in the way of Christ, worshipping in spirit and truth, and seeking out the elects of Christ to join us as one body in Christ.
